Abstract

The naturally occurring S-substituted-L-cysteines have the following general structure:- They have been found in plant, animal and microbiological sources either as the free amino acid, the sulphoxide of the amino acid, a γ-glutamyl dipeptide or as a glutathione conjugate. To date, they have not been found incorporated into proteins and their physiological importance is not known.
