Abstract

Four configurational isomers of both (C-meso) and (C-racemic) 5,5,7,12,12,14-hexamethyl-1,4,8,11-tetra-azacyclotetradecane palladium(II) conveniently characterised by infra-red and proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy are reported. Configurations and conformations of the five and six-membered chelate rings were determined and compared with the analogous square planar nickel(II) complexes. The influence of anions such as ClO4-, ZnCl4 2-, NCS-, NO3-, I-, Cl- on the configurations adopted has also been investigated. A wide range of synthetic methods for a ruthenium(III) analogue of the palladium(II) cyclic tetra-amine complexes were attempted, but without success.
