This research project consists of a content analysis of two Library and Information Science (LIS) wikis, to better understand and determine to what extent the library profession is employing wikis to foster collaboration. A combination of informed perspectives has been used to assist focus and direction. The research project has been supported throughout its various stages by a balanced consideration of the much-trumpeted potential of wikis to foster online collaboration, with the emerging realisation that online communities rely disproportionately on a tiny percentage of contributors. Based upon a quantitative approach, the research project consisted of a content analysis of LIS Library and Information Science Wiki (LIS Wiki) and Library Success: A Best Practices Wiki (BP Wiki). Using a combination of purposive and random sampling techniques, an information-rich and manageable sample of 40 articles from each wiki was identified and selected for the research project.en_NZ
