Abstract:
Extensive learning takes place in the preschool years. Concepts and concerns about early learning and children's readiness for school have contributed to the development of emergent literacy. This bibliography, Early access to success: An annotated bibliography of selected literature on emergent literacy, is intended to act as a guide to literature, which can help to introduce the subject of emergent literacy and explore further in this area of early childhood education and literacy. The bibliography is divided into three different parts. The first part includes an introduction, definition of key terms, objectives and scope of the project and an outline of the methodology, which was used during the procedure of literature search and writing of the bibliography. The second and main part contains annotated bibliographic entries. These bibliographic entries are divided into three different categories and organised according to intended audience. There are writings for teachers and educators, writings for parents and writings for librarians. The third part consists of a subject and a name (author/editor) index. These indexes provide multiple access points to enable reader to select books according to their interest.
