Abstract:
An annotated bibliography of resources for information about seven New Zealand women artists who worked towards abstract practice and Abstract Expressionism during the twentieth century. It provides a perspective of how the artists began painting and what happened during their careers. It takes the view that these women laid a foundation for others in New Zealand to follow. Some emphasis has been given to archives in the belief that as a primary source they provide a contemporary and individual look at an artist's working life. The bibliography is intended to be used by undergraduate art history students and general readers, and as a starting point for serious researchers.
