Abstract

Intranets provide an excellent method for sharing organisational information and creating internal communication channels. The Technology Acceptance Model was used to examine the effectiveness of the Intranet in providing access to information resources within a large health organisation in an attempt to identify possible success factors. Survey research was used to gather data in order to test seven hypotheses relating to Intranet effectiveness. Intranet effectiveness was found to be positively and significantly related to all seven hypothesised factors. A proposed adaptation of the Technology Acceptance Model explained observed variations in Intranet effectiveness. Some implications for the implementation and development of the Intranet are discussed.
