Impacts of the Internet on public library use : an analysis of the current consumer market for library and Internet services in New Zealand in 2002

Abstract

The Internet is rapidly being adopted by New Zealanders.1 Many of the services provided by the Internet simulate those provided by public libraries.2 It is feasible that the Internet will gradually supercede the need for libraries and the people who work in them.3 What can be done by librarians to avert their own demise?
