Abstract

This paper deals with the potential use of boot camps in juvenile criminal law in New Zealand introduced by the Children, Young Persons, and Their Families (Youth Courts Jurisdiction and Orders) Amendment Act 2010 coming into force 1st October 2010. The paper will give an overview of the youth justice system of New Zealand and its legal framework. Moreover, a comparison will be given of the New Zealand approach and the approach in the United States and finally an analysis of the success of such programmes and an alternative to deal with youth criminality will be presented.
