Abstract:
The aims of this study are fourfold:
1. To design and construct a suitable laboratory maze for use with human subjects.
2. To discuss some of the theory of maze structure especially as it relates to the maze used in this study.
3. To evolve a satisfactory system of scoring for human mazes of this type.
4. To make a tentative study of some factors that may influence maze learning results. These factors are:
(a) Configuration.
(b) The number of changes of direction in the maze path.
(c) Symmetry of path.
(d) Intelligence of subjects.
(e) Spatial test ability of subjects.
After a preliminary discussion of the history of mazes, the topics listed above are dealt with seriatim, and the whole study is summarized briefly in the final section.
