Abstract:
The intention of this study has been to carry out a detailed analysis of the composition of Lambton Quay and Wellington City in order to reach some conclusions about the nature of Lambton Quay as a focus for the City. The analysis concentrates on three discreet time zones, in an effort to show that Lambton Quay has gone through a series of changes with the passage of time. Change and the passage of time are described through an examination of elements of a "streetscape" in each time zone. The study shows that Lambton Quay has always been of focal importance to the City, both in its structure and its creation of a central city image, and that the active processes of time and development have reduced its importance significantly.
