Abstract:
The reaction of halogens with ethyleric compounds should be represented by the equation, A : B + X2 = AX.XB., indicating that the reaction is kinetically of the second order. If this is so its rate is dependent on temperature, concentration of the reactants, and the presence of catalysts. While this is true in many cases it is not universally so for a review of the literature reveals the fact that such a reaction is sensitive to – (1) Solvent, (2) Environment of Double Bond, (3) Nature of addendum, (4) Temperature, (5) Catalysts, (6) Light, such factors interfering with the order of the reaction.
