The problem of the addition of halogens to ethylene compounds has been approached in the past in many different ways and numerous factors have been found to play a part in the reaction. In the course of an historical account of the work done, these factors have been arranged under the following headings :-
(1) Kinetics.
(2) Influence of the halogen.
(3) Environment of the double bond.
(4) Influence of solvents and of catalysts. |
