Abstract:
Studies are made on Pseudolabrus, a genus of Southern temperate Labrids. The taxonomic characters, affinities with related genera, and distribution are discussed. Indications are made as to the phylogenetic relationships within the 25 species. A key to the species is constructed. Descriptions of the five species occuring in the New Zealand region are furnished. Sexual dimorphism in Pseudolabrus celidotus is commented on. Observations relating to the general biology of P.celidotus, P.miles, and P.fucicola are made.
