Abstract
Geomancy; - man's attempt to invoke spirits, gods or other forces to reside in buildings or at certain spots through the nature of the architecture used. This report looks at the power of architecture to invoke a presence and it considers whether the geomantic practices of the past are still being applied today. It looks at past and present practices in Geomancy; uses of Geomancy; users of Geomancy. It considers the relevance of Geomancy to a modern world by looking at three South Pacific examples and then three modern uses of Geomancy in the Wellington area. Conclusions are drawn as to whether Geomancy is still relevant today.
This report focusses on the sense of mystery and magic which pervades some buildings and is especially written for those interested in weaving a little magic into buildings of their own.
