Abstract
This report in intended to provide the basis for a future design guide for the suburb of Mount Victoria in Wellington. The analysis comprises two sections. The first part of the report describes the history, structure and development, and land use in the area. In the second part, which comprises two sections, three streets are selected as case studies. These are Brougham, Majoribanks and Hawker Streets. In the first part of the case studies the structure of the three streets is analysed, in particular, the street structure and subdivision patterns. The second part of the case study analysis looks at the building morphology of the three streets. Building footprints, roof types, building form and configuration are analysed. Sources for the case studies include field observation, aerial photographs, cadastral maps of the area, and information from the Wellington City Council on lot and building areas The report summarizes the essential patterns and features found in the case studies. This material will provide the basis for the development of guidelines in the future.
