Abstract:
This thesis describes the interactions between Indonesia and North Vietnam (or the Socialist Republic of Vietnam as it has been known subsequent to the re-unification of the north and south) since 1965.
The foreign policy, and the factors influencing it, of Indonesia's New Order are the focus of the study. More specifically, the uses of foreign policy instruments - as derived from the nation's available capability - are highlighted.
My thesis is that the New Order elite have become aware of the limited capability which the foreign policy of a developing country has, and that the objectives and tactics pursued in their relations with Hanoi have been based upon this fact.
