Abstract
What is New Zealand architecture?
What is New Zealand architecture? There could be many interpretations to this question depending on what qualities one would like to promote about the idea of New Zealand Architecture. It is certain that New Zealanders have Polynesian, Maori and European roots, so the language of a New Zealand architecture should embody the physical, spiritual and intellectual elements of these cultures.
This research report sets out to describe some of these elements. The reader is introduced to the meanings inherent to New Zealands root cultures. The report is made up of selected case studies. These are some examples of architecture in New Zealand that embody elements and principles of architectural language inherent to each of the root cultures. The report concludes with a statement of desire and inevitability about New Zealands future architecture
