Abstract:
Gerald Melling is a practising architect in Wellington. He is also an outspoken architectural critic.
The purpose of this report is to become aware of his motives behind his various architecture and writings. It traces, in a semi-biographical manner, his time in Liverpool, Toronto and Oxford before his emigration to NZ in 1972. Each chapter then deals with a specific part of his work in NZ.
Within each chapter Melling's stated motives are recorded. Commentary, based on user feedback is then followed by a concluding statement of Melling's effectiveness in achieving his stated motives.
