Abstract

SUNCODE is a general purpose thermal analysis program for residential and small commercial buildings. It is particularly suitable for analyzing passive solar designed buildings. The program analyzes the energy performance of a building by simulation based on a user created thermal model of the building. The model is mathematically studied by SUNCODE and the results summarized. The topic for this research report, a database for SUNCODE, is gradually introduced by explaining: 1. why passive solar design is needed. 2. what has been done to develop the solar industry in New Zealand. 3. how computers assist in passive solar design. 4. what the SUNCODE program is, and how a database can be used with the program. The introduction is completed by explaining: 1. why this report was written: Statement of the problem 2. what the report wants to accomplish : Objectives 3. how the report is organized: Report outline
