dc.description.abstract This report seeks to discover some of the factors affecting the future of the church buildings in today's changing society. St John's Presbyterian Church, Wellington, is specifically looked at, and the effects of secularization - the turning of attention away from the world beyond to this world and this time - are examined. After determining the present day functions of churches it is concluded that a reordering of St Johns is needed. The major factors that affect this and church building in general are concluded, to be; the sense of the provisional, the sense of economy, and the sense of the continuing nature of space. en_NZ
