Abstract

St John's Presbyterian Church, Wellington, is specifically looked at, and the effects of secularization - the turning of attention away from the world beyond to this world and this time - are examined. After determining the present day functions of churches it is concluded that a reordering of St Johns is needed. The major factors that affect this and church building in general are concluded, to be; the sense of the provisional, the sense of economy, and the sense of the continuing nature of space.
