Abstract:
In recent years there has been much concern about the harmful effects of Electromagnetic fields from artificial or humanmade sources. Such sources include overhead or underground powerlines, electrical appliances, telecommunications, and microwaves. There has been much research in this area, but the results are far from clear. Several parties have presented interpretations of the research to form differing conclusions, which has only confused the majority of the public.
The area that has been focused on in this report is the exposure of an individual in their home environment to ELF (Extra Low Frequency) Electromagnetic Fields, this includes electrical supply from overhead or underground cables plus household appliances and their related wiring.
The report states the evidence upon which differing interpretations are drawn, giving an insight into the research that has been conducted, the difficulties in the interpretation of this data, and the areas that require further research. The conclusion includes a guide to the exposure of an individual to ELF electromagnetic fields in their home. It states the field strengths that have been associated with disease by differing parties, the areas of high exposure, and how to minimize these fields.
