Abstract:
The object of this investigation was the examination and comparison of the various methods available for estimating traces of carbon monoxide present in air contaminated by motor-car exhaust gas. The accuracy required was one part of 00 per ten thousand parts of contaminated air by volume, over a range of from one to ten parts per ten thousand (p.p.t.t.). Rapidity and simplicity were essential requirements.
The necessity for this work arose through the construction of a vehicular traffic tunnel in Wellington. The ventilation of this tunnel will be by fans, and it is desired to have available some rapid method of estimating 00 so as to control this ventilation.
