Abstract

The two experimental techniques of Mossbauer and Xray emission spectroscopy were used to study the effects of an initial K vacancy in an atom. Mossbauer emission spectroscopy applied to cobalt oxalate dihydrate gave no results. Mossbauer absorption spectroscopy of hemin indicated high spin ferric iron, but with an anomalous temperature dependence, Xray emission spectroscopy of some aluminium compounds showed that the Xray shift is dependent on bond length, electronegativity difference and the difference in partial charges on the bonding partners. A relationship was established between Xray emission and Mossbauer spectroscopy, and effective nuclear charges were evaluated.
