The Anthocyanins of the Pohutukawa stamens and a synthesis of norcarane derivatives

Abstract

The aim of this section of the thesis was to determine the colouring matter of the Pohutukawa stamens. At the time this topic was begun my supervisor and I believed that the compound or compounds responsible for the vivid crimson colour of the stamens had not been determined and it was not until I had completed the work that we found that R.C. Combie and R.N. Seelye had already done it some time before. R.C. Combie and R.N. Seelye - N.Z.J.Sc. 4 189 (1961) In summary it can only be said that the work done has been to confirm that of Combie and Seelye.
