It is often thought of as Wellington Harbours focal point as it can be seen from many vantage points around the region. This has been one of the major causes of interest that has always surrounded the island. Many people have only been able to look and wonder what secrets and history have been locked up there due to its wide and varied past. The latest government department to be given jurisdiction of the Island is the Department of Conservation. Now, for the first time in the islands recent history, it can be easily accessed by the general public. With this comes the potential to provide a greater understanding of the islands historical and ecological significance to the public. It is envisaged that this bibliography will be able to assist those with an interest in the future management of Somes Island, with a means of obtaining relevant information to the historical, ecological, cultural and managerial aspects of Somes Island. It may also appeal to people who have a personal link to the island such as those with relations that may have worked or have been kept there at some stage in the long history of the Island.pdfen-NZMatiuSoames IslandBibliographiesMatiu : Somes Island : a bibliographyText
