It is intended to provide access to accounts of the lives of Maori women and kuia considered to have mana and to be role models at a local, national or international level. It is designed to fill a gap in the literature for a Maori bibliography of biography for Maori women. Several secondary sources have been utilised, however the time frame eliminated several significant sources. The entries are comprised of monographs, periodical articles and chapters from books. They are arranged alphabetically by subject, and the Chicago B citation style has been utilised. The subjects are from a wide range of backgrounds and include artists, activists, pioneers, kaumatua and community workers. The annotations are presented in a indicative commentary style.
