One of these naturally occuring tropolones is the β-iso propyl-γ-(3 1-methylbut-2 1-enyl) tropolone, Nootkatin (I) C15H2002. Isolated initially by Carlsson, Erdtman, Frank and Harvey Acta Chem. Scand. 1952: 6, 690. as a heartwood constituent of Chamaecyparis nootkatensis (Lamb) and later by Corbett and Wright from Cupressus macrocarpa (Hart) Chem. and Ind. 1953: 1258. it has also been found as a heart wood constituent of the Curessus sempervirens Chem. Abs. 1957: 51, 6524h. and Juniperus formosana Chem.
