Traces of embellishment

Abstract

This research was launched by a site visit to the city to photograph existing marks on surfaces in the built environment. An overwhelming discovery was made this day; marks are everywhere, on all surfaces, at all scales, constructed by many different and often undistinguishable means. They are an inevitable, yet largely invisible, aspect of our everyday life, silently recording an intimate history of our inhabitation.
