Art and architecture share the common characteristic of a view and experience of reality that relies on the imagination. This report will show that the relationship between art and architecture occurs across the whole field of architecture, from its most cognitive to its most expressive forms, and at a deeper level than stylistic imitation. The report looks at the overlap of 20th century art and architecture when avant-garde art meets the imaginary realm of architecture. Ideas introduced by revolutionary, challenging artists and artistic movements of the early 20th century seeped first into the imaginary or secret realm of architecture, then into the architectural discourse as a whole.en_NZ
