Abstract

Stained glass as an architectural form has fascinated me for several years now. The intense qualities of its light, radiancy, vibrancy and colour, add a lively new dimension to any architectural setting. The inspiration to write this research report was given to me after reading a book called "In the Light of the Past" by Jock Philips and Chris MacLean. Published in 1983, it focused on stained glass windows in New Zealand houses from 1865 to 1982. Sadly for me, well over 90% of the book was devoted to pre-1970 stained glass with only a small section of it dealing with modern stained glass.
