Abstract

Problem solving is one of the eight essential skills listed in the New Zealand Curriculum Framework1 as required learning in New Zealand schools. Educational researchers have shown that stories can be used in a classroom setting to develop children's problem solving skills. Suitable stories are those structured around a clearly defined problem; for which there is no immediately obvious answer. Current cataloguing practice makes suitable works difficult to locate. This bibliography is intended to answer increasing demand from New Zealand teachers for stories centred on problem solving, for use in New Zealand primary classrooms
