Abstract

This study of iodine catalysed chlorination is intended to show that at certain concentrations, iodine has a maximum catalytic effect on the rate of chlorine substitution in an aromatic hydrocarbon. Certain limitations prevented the study being carried further but from the data available it is possible to predict that the kinetics of chlorine substitution, under the experimental conditions described herein, follow a slightly different pattern to those of a similar investigation with bromine.
