Abstract

My intention for the music was to compliment the surreal nature of the text extracts. achieve this I included some electroacoustic elements within the piece that blend with the live music either subtly, as in the case of using straight prerecorded instruments, or, more blatantly, as is the case in the final section where the electroacoustic part acts as a backdrop for the cello improvisation. Also, with the use of extended techniques amongst the instruments, and electronic processing of the electric guitar, I wanted to confuse the listener as to the source and nature of the perceived music that was occurring. Ideally the work would achieve its best perceived visual performance without a conductor but with the relative difficulty of the music and allowed rehearsal time this is difficult to achieve. Another person is also required to operate the projector and cue each transition within the text.
