Abstract
In the professional literature of nursing, there is an increasing emphasis on the importance of evidence-based practice. This study explores how evidence-based practice is regarded by senior nurses in the context of a general hospital in provincial New Zealand, and how library services could be tailored to better meet the nurses' need for information for evidence-based care. In particular, a literature search service is examined. The findings indicate evidence-based practice is regarded as very important, although the concept is understood mainly in general terms, and not in depth. The literature search service is considered very useful, but a multifaceted approach to improving library service to nurses is suggested. Existing services could be better utilized with more promotion and user education.
