What is industrial relations?

Abstract

This paper has been prepared in response to requests for an introductory statement regarding the nature and scope of industrial relations. It aims to create an awareness of the fact that industrial relations involves more than wage-fixing and industrial conflict. It employs the ·concept of an industrial relations system to demonstrate complexities and wider issues. To bring matters close to home, appropriate New Zealand examples and illustrations have been used where relevant.
