Abstract
The bibliography is an important means of filling a specific gap in the literature on women photographers. The bibliography is not be exhaustive in its coverage but will aim to provide a general overview of the subject.
The material included in the bibliography presented certain difficulties in presentation and inclusion. While material on women photographers in the late nineteenth and earlier twentieth century is somewhat scarce and difficult to source, material on women photographers in the middle and latter part of the twentieth century is much easier to access. To overcome this issue, works on the earlier photographers is as comprehensive as possible while inclusion of material for later photographers will be more selective. In some instances a lot of work has been published on specific women photographers and this bibliography does not aim to replicate this but rather to provide a general historical coverage.
The bibliography includes books journal articles and exhibition catalogues. It does not include obituaries or newspaper items. As there is a lot of material on certain photographers a lot of material has had to be omitted. The criteria here was to provide a good coverage of a photographers artistic career and so the most descriptive exhibition catalogues , books and articles have been included. A selection of material to provide examples of a wide range of the photographers work has been included
