A normal coordinate analysis of spiropentane

Abstract

Force constants and normal coordinates are reported for spiropentane. The final force field has been obtained by the diagonal refinement of an approximation to the field, constructed by transferring force constants from cyclopropane. The data available is insufficient to characterize the force field conclusively. Particular difficulty is encountered with the B2 species. The Wilson FG matrix method is briefly discussed.
