Abstract
This report looks at the issues and problems that have to be overcome in the design of a scale model for making subjective appraisals in lighting research.
It would be useful at this point to define what is meant by model. There are various methods by which it is possible to produce a representation of the real environment which could be termed model, these include
1. mathematical models,
2. renderings,
3. photographs,
4. full sized mock ups,
5. and scale models.
The definition of model from the Oxford Dictionary is, "Representation in three dimensions of projected or existing structure or material object...". With this definition, the representation that this report is concerned with is the scale (three dimensional) model made from cardboard, timber, steel, plastic or some other material, as a replica of some part of the real environment.
