Abstract
Hip Hop is a firmly established culture within New Zealand that provides important social and cultural commentary, however as a "popular" form of artistic expression it has received little bibliographic coverage. Existing bibliographies place a focus on the more "serious" element of endeavour, classical composition. This bibliography attempts to address the need for bibliographic coverage relating to popular forms of artistic expression by focusing on one aspect of this subject, the music and dance of Hip Hop culture in New Zealand. The primary objectives guiding this bibliographic research were to enable access to textual publications, so to assist in fdling the knowledge gap concerning the impact of Hip Hop culture. A variety of textual publications were examined in the process of this research, ranging from ephemera to encyclopaedias. Citations for relevant sources, offering sufficient commentary on the culture of Hip Hop in New Zealand, are presented chronologically and supplemented with annotations summarising their content. This bibliography is intended to provide assistance to researchers.
