Abstract
The thesis has the following theme : "What procedures can organisations in New Zealand introduce to improve their performance and contribute to the raising of the standard of living and social welfare?" Companies, local bodies and mutual insurance companies control a large proportion of the funds in the national economy and these operate within the framework of guidelines set down by the democratically elected government.
Within this framework, due to the sophistication and specialisation of the modern business environment, a system of planning is emerging. This has reached an advanced stage overseas and in some cases within New Zealand. However, the scope for application of techniques is the basis of this research and the following pages will attempt to look at these, building on concepts laid down by Ansoff, Ackoff, Andrews and Argenti, assess their relative worth to the corporate planner in the New Zealand organisation and suggest improvements.
