dc.description.abstract | A feature of the modern metropolitan scene is the massed inward surge of workers moving to their places of employment. This flow is characterised by regularity, intensity, and relentless peak pressures on the transport facilities. The problem of this journey to work, lies not in the inability of the city to absorb all the workers, but rather on the minute by minute ability of the city's transport systems to move the workers. In Wellington, perhaps more critically than other cities in New Zealand the access routes are limited, the Central Business District is small, and a large proportion of the work force lives outside the city's boundary. | en_NZ |
