Abstract

Douglas Wright is New Zealand's most internationally recognised contemporary dancer and choreographer, yet information pertaining to his life and work has been particularly difficult to access due to a lack of indexing foresight. Interrelating a selection of materials of multiple media formats, this bibliography's purpose is to facilitate access to sources that provide insight into Wright's life, influences, thinking, and artistic development; as well as public reaction to his work. Works and films sections precede the annotated component of the bibliography and provide complimentary points of reference to the information held therein. Some emphasis has been placed on primary sources and while the majority of these sources have New Zealand origins, international sources able to be accessed in New Zealand have been included to place Wright's development and achievements within the international contemporary dance context. Primary intended users for this bibliography are dance historians, students of dance history, dance biographers and dance educationalists.
