Investigation into journal use by post-graduate students of the Department of Nursing and Midwifery at Victoria University of Wellington

Abstract

This study investigates nursing journal use by post-graduate students of the Department of Nursing and Midwifery at Victoria University of Wellington (VUW). A written questionnaire was developed to establish what nursing journals are being used, where these journals are being obtained, why these journals are being obtained from these libraries and finally what use was being made of VUW Library and why. The questionnaire was sent to 236 students and 11 academic staff Originally staff were to be included in the results, however due to a small response rate they were not included in the findings. The findings include: low usage of nursing journals by the students: significant use of libraries other than VUW Library to obtain journals (including a high number of Wellington students who did not use the Library): a number of students who are unaware of what the Distance Library Service at VUW has to offer them.
