Iodine addition to ethylenic compounds

Abstract

Throughout the study of halogen addition to unsaturated organic compounds, much attention has been focussed on the actual nature of the addition. Experimental evidence has been in support of a two stage electronic process developed from a theory advanced by Lowry (1); the fundamental principle being that both halogen and acceptor molecules become polarised.
