Use of digital preservation in libraries and archives : 'silver bullet' or "Trojan horse'?

Abstract

The reasons for concern about digital technology that are expressed by these and other authors are many, but can be grouped into one of the following two main categories: Technical Problems Intellectual and Organizational Concerns The purpose of this research project is two-fold: (1) to identify and examine these concerns in detail; and (2) to outline, critically discuss, and assess the solutions or strategies that have been devised or suggested for dealing with them. This, it is hoped, will provide a comprehensive view and understanding of the issues and challenges that surround digital preservation in the library and archives environments at the present time.
