Amongst the multitude of papers to be found in the various volumes of the Journal of the Chemical Society, comparatively few appear to have been devoted to studies of nitration reactions, particularly those occurring among aromatic compounds. In all cases where such reactions have been studied, they have been found to be approximately bimolecular. Special attention has been paid to the action of nitric acid on phenol, but beyond the discovery of several interesting points, nothing definite seems to have been brought to light.en_NZ
