An aeromagnetic survey of 180,000 sq. Km of the ocean around the central part of the Hawaiian Ridge is described. The magnetic anomalies, when magnetization due to the topography is allowed for, are interpreted in terms of tabular bodies of abnormally magnetized rock. A comparison is made between the inferred rock bodies, rock bodies that have been inferred in other oceanic areas, and the topography, geology, and gravity values of the area. It is inferred that the anomalous bodies within the Hawaiian Ridge are probably composed of ultrapasic rock, and lie below volcanic vents.en_NZ
