The first polynuclear, N containing, heterocycle with the heterocyclic atom between the ring systems was reported by Angeli Angeli Ber 23 1793 (1890),Angeli Ber 23 2154 (1890) in 1890. Since then several heterocycles of this type have been prepared. It is the object of the present research to investigate methods of synthesising the classes of pyrrolopyrimidines shown below. The nomenclature and numbering system follows that of the more recent Chemical Abstracts (e.g. C.A. 51 7358 _ pyrrolopyridazines).en_NZ
