The Genus Cardamine in New Zealand. The genus Cardamine as treated by o.E. Schulz (1903) contains about 120 species widely distributed throughout the world, especially in northern and southern temperate regions the few tropical species being confined to the mountains. About 30 spp. occur in Europe, another 30 in Asia, 16 in North America, 2 in arctic circumpolar regions, 18 in South America, 7 in Australasia and l6 in tropical Africa, Asia and America. Five indigenous species are recognised in Cheeseman's "Manual of the N.Z. Flora" (1925). Of these, according to Cheeseman, two or possibly three are found in Fuegia, the rest being endemic.en_NZ
